Nagel, Charles W. (University of California, Davis) and Reese H. Vaughn. Comparison of growth and pectolytic enzyme production by Bacillus polymyxa. J. Bacteriol. 83:1-5. 1962.-Studies were made of pectolytic enzyme production by Bacillus polymyxa during growth. It was found that elaboration of enzyme occurred during logarithmic growth and ceased when the stationary phase was reached. The specific activity of the extra-cellular enzyme remained relatively constant until lysis occurred. The increased specific activity of the intracellular pectolytic enzyme may be explained if one assumes that the rate of secretion of the intracellular enzyme is dependent upon the concentration of the extracellular enzyme. The concentration of the intracellular pectolytic enzyme dropped markedly at the end of the logarithmic growth phase; the enzyme was released into the medium during the stationary growth phase and subsequent lysis of the cells. It was shown that the intra- and extracellular enzymes were similar or identical in that both were calcium-dependent pectic acid transeliminases.

Production of Extracellular Protease and Determination of Optimal Condition by Bacillus Licheniformis BBRC 100053 (RESEARCH NOTE)
The production of protease by Bacillus licheniformis BBRC 100053 was studied. The most appropriate medium for the growth and protease production is composed of: lactose 1%, yeast extract 0.5%, peptone 0.5%, KH2PO4 0.1%, MgSO4.7H2O 0.02%. Enzyme production corresponded with growth and reached a maximums level (589 U/ml) during the stationary phase at 35°C, pH equivalent to 10 and with 150 rpm af...
متن کاملRhizobacteria for reduced fertilizer inputs in wheat (Triticum aestivum spp. vulgare) and barley (Hordeum vulgare) on Aridisols in Turkey
The present study assessed the effect of seed inoculation with single or multiple plant growth-promoting rhizobacterial (PGPR) strains on yield in spring wheat (Triticum aestivum spp. vulgare var. Kırık) and barley (Hordeum vulgare cv. Tokak) plants in both greenhouse and field conditions during the years 2007 and 2008. The treatments of wheat and barley plants during the first year include...
متن کاملGenetic and Phenotypic Diversity of Bacillus polymyxa in Soil and in the Wheat Rhizosphere.
Diversity among 130 strains of Bacillus polymyxa was studied; the bacteria were isolated by immunotrapping from nonrhizosphere soil (32 strains), rhizosphere soil (38 strains), and the rhizoplane (60 strains) of wheat plantlets growing in a growth chamber. The strains were characterized phenotypically by 63 auxanographic (API 50 CHB and API 20B strips) and morphological features, serologically ...
متن کاملSoft rot of calla is caused mainly by the bacterium Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum (Pcc)
We studied bacterial isolates 15M and 16M from calla lily tubers showing soft rot in commercial plantations in Poland. Colony morphology differed from that of known agents of bacterial soft rot of this plant. The use of Microgen Bacillus ID system allowed to identify both isolates as Paenibacillus polymyxa. This was confirmed by sequence analysis of 16S rRNA gene fragments. The isolates showed ...
متن کاملPurification and Characterization of a Novel Thermostable and Acid Stable α-Amylase from Bacillus Sp. Iranian S1
This study reports the purification and biochemical characterization of thermostable and acidic-pH-stable α-amylase from Bacillus sp. Iranian S1 isolated from the desert soil (Gandom-e-Beryan in Lut desert, Iran). Amylase production was found to be growth associated. Maximum enzyme production was in exponential phase with activity 2.93 U ml-1 at 50°C and pH 5. The enzyme was purified by isoprop...
